Obituary of Catherine Jean Dunne

In 1932, Catherine Jean Dunne was born in San Diego, CA to her parents Leo and Catherine Lynch.

She met Joseph Bruce Dunne at a church social in 1949. Joe joined the Young Adult group at their local parish just to be near Jean and after several months of courting, they married on August 22, 1950. It is rumored Joe proposed to her by hiding the ring on a stem of a flower inside a bouquet for Valentine’s Day. Together they celebrated their 70th golden anniversary and long love before Joe’s passing in March of 2021.

As young newlyweds Joe and Jean began a family, raising 8 children who became Jean’s biggest treasure in life.

Jean grew up in a generation who understood service. She devoted her life in many ways to this aim. She found value in her service to the church and in her volunteer duties with St. Vincent de Paul society, many of which she shared side-by-side with her husband Joe. On her own merit, she served as the first female President of Snohomish County Council where she networked with a handful of other women pioneering leadership roles within the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

She served many years taking care of her aging mother while still raising a family. But most of all her devotion was in serving her children, showing this through her steadfast, quiet unconditional love.

Love is what a mother does, and she did it well.

Jean passed away on August 13, 2022, survived by her 8 children, 7 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren whom she cherished deeply.

She is forever loved and forever missed.
