Ruth Stewart

Obituary of Ruth Maxine Stewart

Ruth Maxine Stewart, 95, of Sequim passed away peacefully December 29, 2022.  She was born May 19, 1927 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to John and Alma Rust, and raised on a farm in Loveland, Colorado with her seven siblings.  With her normal school certificate, she taught 8 grades in a one-room schoolhouse, living with the families of her students.  After marrying Mervin “Al” Stewart, of Trochu, Alberta, she moved to Wenatchee while Al completed apprenticeship training with the Great Northern Railway.

The young couple transferred to St. Paul, Minnesota where they lived with their two children until 1962 when they moved back to Seattle.  They settled in Sequim after retirement and Ruth loved their mountain home which reminded her of the Colorado Rockies.  Ruth and Al enjoyed taking road trips, especially along the Oregon coast.  She was an accomplished gardener and seamstress and she taught herself to paint in oils and to play the keyboard.  Ruth often sang while she worked in a lovely, clear soprano.

Ruth is survived by her brother Don (Jan) Rust, sister Valeda Newman, daughter Kathryne (Jeffrey) LeMieux, son David (Maria) Stewart, granddaughter Kristen LeMieux, grandsons John (Janel) LeMieux and Adam (Summer) LeMieux, and her great grandchildren, Amos and Evelyn. There will be no services at her request.
