Kristinn Gudmundson

Obituary of Kristinn Filip Gudmundson

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kristinn Filip “Fil” Gudmundson. Fil was taken from this earth to be in heaven far too early on January 14, 2023. Fil was born in Mountain, ND on January 20, 1955, to Sigurros Emily Kristjanson and Kristinn Finnboji “K.F” Gudmundson and little brother to Barbra Rutherford. He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Patti Gudmundson, his daughters, Jenny Glynn and Erika Gudmundson, sons-in-law, Mark Glynn and Cory Casini and beloved granddaughters Blakey Glynn (4), Peyton Glynn (2), Hadlyn Casini (8 weeks) and Ella Glynn (13).

Fil was a husband, father, Afi, brother, uncle, father-in-law, and friend. He wore every title well and did so with purpose and intention. Fil loved his family deeply and was more than proud. He valued time with them, and we cherish the beautiful time spent.

While Fil was passionate about people, he also was fiercely passionate about music, fine dining and experiencing the world. He lived a lifetime in his 67 years. In his younger years, he was a highly recognized trumpet and saxophone player. He traveled all over the world performing in bands. His talent took him all over the US and Europe. When in his 20’s Fil was in many local bands but the most notable was Full Blown. We have had the great privilege to hear stories of his “band days” and hold those stories close and with pride.

Band life slowly came to an end when he got a job working for the Washington State Lottery. In 2022 Fil finally retired after 39 years as the Regional District Manager. He spent his career mentoring, leading and caring for his employees. At his retirement party he was met with nothing but incredible words and praise for the impact on all the lives he had.

Not only was Fil an incredible family man, husband, boss, and musician, he also was a great friend, a coach, the life of the party, a storyteller, golfer, great dancer, seeker of a good time, lover and a bright light.  A piece of our hearts went with him the night he went to heaven. We miss him dearly and look to heaven for his comfort and love.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you email or mail your favorite memory or story about Fil. We plan to create a book that can be given to his granddaughters one day to remember the beautiful life Fil had and incredible legacy he has left behind.
