Obituary of Harry Nelson Hutchins

Harry Nelson Hutchins, III Hutch passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on November 15, 2008. While working on one of his many home projects Hutch fell from a ladder and succumbed to severe head trauma. Hutch was born to Harry Nelson Hutchins, Jr. and Elinor Rose Hutchins July 13, 1940 in Baltimore, MD. In 1962 Hutch graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. His career in the Coast Guard was at sea and as an aviator flying both helicopter and fixed wing airplanes. He received an MBA from Notre Dame College, Belmont, CA. After retiring from the Coast Guard Hutch worked in Seattle as the executive director of the Marine Exchange of Puget Sound. He later became the executive director of The Puget Sound Steamship Operators. Hutch was a remarkable man. His friendliness and intelligence drew the respect and admiration of everyone around him. He was a caring mentor and teacher to many. Hutch loved dogs, sailing and traveling with the love of his life and wife of 44 years, Sue. Hutch was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Mears Hutchins. He is survived by his wife, Sue of Edmonds, WA, brother Michael of Anacortes, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made to the Catholic Seamans Club or a charity of your choosing. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at noon in Seattle at the Catholic Seamans Club, 2330 1st Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121.
