Obituary of Dorothy Rood Moberg

Died peacefully in her sleep on December 19 after a long illness. She was 84. She is survived by five daughters: Pat Moberg, Emily Roalkvam, Eileen Mattes, Marie Bennewitz and Elizabeth Moberg; her sister, Marie Prichett; six grandchildren: James Overaa, Matt Braid, Erik Engebretsen, David Moberg-Thompson, Anika Engebretsen and Matt Roalkvam; and six great-grandchildren: Andrew, Aidan, Raymond, Christopher, Mable and Desmond.A longtime resident of Monroe, Washington, Dorothy was an active community volunteer and activist for decades. Most notably, she served on the Monroe School Board, was a long-term member of the League of Women Voters, and played an active role in Democratic party politics. She was a graduate of GarfieldHigh School and the University of Washington, where she earned her MA in Comparative Literature. She taught in the EdmondsSchool District before retiring in 1990. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Walter Moberg. She died on the 10-year anniversary of his death. A Memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 301 S. Lewis Street in Monroe on Saturday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts to the First Congregational Church are requested in lieu of flowers.
