Obituary of Richard Daryl McCabe

Dick was born Dec. 14, 1930 in Seattle and passed away peacefully on Feb. 25, 2009 surrounded by family.He graduated from BremertonHigh School in1948. He joined the army earning the rank of Sergeant as a Radioman. Dick earned a degree in Broadcast Engineering from EdisonTechnicalSchool.He worked for King TV, NW Mobile and 15 years for KOMO TV, leaving as Chief Engineer. He then worked 10 years for the UW as Chief Engineer for Instructional Media Services. He was instrumental in installing the UW Microwave system.In his retirement he found time to pursue his many interests. He was an avid bird watcher, making many trips, keeping a detailed list of life birds he saw. Dick made several working models of steam engines and had made his own telescopes. He was a talented man who could make or repair most anything. He could be found most Saturdays watching hockey on TV. Dick and Barbara enjoyed traveling, their last trip was to Kenya in 2004.Dick leaves his wife, Barbara of 30 years; sister, Joyce (Bob) Myhr, Lopez Island; combined children: Dan (Annamarie) McCabe, Enumclaw; Daryl McCabe, Northport; daughter, Jamie (Jim) Ferrier, Arlington; Mike (Diane) Mitchell, Stanwood; Gail (Joe) Bailey, Everett; Jennie (Rick) Sieber, Clearview; Teresa Mitchell, Knox, IN; grandchildren: Josh Jamie McCabe; Kevan, Kendra Kamryn Ferrier; Jacob Kimo Mitchell and Chelsey Hornacek; Dustin, Tyler, Cory and Collin Bailey; David, Mitch, Ryan and Jarrett Sieber; Josh and Allie Sandifer; Jennie Tibbits and Joanna Lockrem; nephew, Bob (Kyra) Dyer, Bellingham and brother-in-law, Lyle Savage, LaVerne, CA; and ten great grandchildren.A Celebration of Dicks life will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 22, at Edmonds Presbyterian Church, 22600 96th Avenue W, (425) 776-4334.Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society, HarborviewHospital or Audubon Society-Pilchuck 2829, Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
