Obituary of Walter A. Hensel

Walter August Hensel was born in Seattle February, 1920 and lived over 89 years. His time to leave us on February 25, 2009 was perfectly chosen by The One who is author of life and death. He entered into the process of dying of natural causes with commitment and passion, just as he lived his entire life. He passed peacefully. He no longer suffers but will not be here. We will miss Walts sense of humor and kindness. His enjoyment of others and their well-being, his helping hands and his gift for hospitality has touched our hearts with good memories. Walt loved the out-of-doors, traveling, golfing, camping, building from wood and tending his garden. As a young man, he was an accomplished poet and musician. His favorite stories came from the newspaper, he was a fan of both the business section and the Funnies. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Fabricators Union, the Masonic Lodge, Alki, and the Burien Elks. Most of all, Walt loved two wives and was a most respec husband for over 50 yrs. First, his 33-year marriage to Jane Claire Hensel (1922-1984), who was the mother of his two daughters, Betty Jane and Candace Diane; and lastly his 20-year marriage to Mayme W. Stevens Hensel. Other loving family members include Mike Jorgensen, Tammy and Brian Cooke, Jay Stevens; grandchildren: Brody, Alyssa, and Emelyn Berg, great-granddaughter, Dahlia; Marilyn Kardell, Kenneth Roll, Bret Hagen and his ever faithful dachshund, Putzy. He is preceded in death by his parents, August and Martha Hensel and sister, Anne Roll. Lets all plant a tree or tomato plant this year to honor Walts memory, a life well lived.Memorial Service: Friday, March 13, 2009 at 1:00p.m. at Edmonds Christian Church, 23010 84th Ave. W., Edmonds, WA 98026.
