Obituary of Gretchen Shaffer Seager

Gretchen Shaffer-Seager Da-ahOf Edmonds passed away peacefully March 24, 2009. She was born Nov. 20, 1923 in Everett, WA. Gretchen was the youngest of seven children born to early pioneers Harry and Jessie Mellison-Shaffer owners of the Everett Brick Yard. She graduated from EverettHigh School and Providence at Seattle U with a Nursing degree with high honors. She was one of the first surgical nurses at StevensHospital when it first opened and finished her career retiring from King County Blue Shield. Gretchen is survived by her three children: son and daughter-in-law Quentin and Nancy Seager of Mukilteo, daughter and son-in-law, Mary Sue and Larry Henick of Portland, and daughter and son-in-law Judi and John Spade of Snohomish; her grandchildren: Jeremy, Evan and Heidi Seager; Emily Henick and great grandson Chase Seager; her best friend and companion Sweetie her dog; as well as her brother-in-law, Byron Seager and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Egge-Brothers; and two very special life-long friends, Betty Lou Smith and Bea Branstrom; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Seager of 44 years; her parents, brothers Harry, Burton, and Bob and her sisters, Patricia Parks, Betty Leach and Helen Goldstone. You are all together again!The family gives a great big thank you to the outstanding staff at CRISTA for all their care.A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 31, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 630 7th Avenue S in Edmonds, with Recn following. A Private Interment will be held at EdmondsMemorialCemetery.Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
