Obituary of August John Stanfel

August John Stanfel, born in Ronald, WA, August 9, 1916, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2009, just shy of 93 wonde years. He spent his early years in Roslyn, WA. August was a third generation coal miner for the NW Improvement Co. August served for the US Army during WWII in the signal corps. He spent years with Boeing as an engineer and was also an x-ray service engineer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Gladys Catherine Stanfel. He was a beloved father of Larry (Lenore), Paul (Linda), Joseph (Debby), Theresa (David) and Catherine (Doug); grandfather of Angela (John), Darren, Monique, Jacob, Austin, Brandon, Danielle, Carissa, Tony and Bailey; great-grandfather of Lena; and godfather of Jo Ann Simpson (Ron). He was preceded by his parents, Anna and Joseph Stanfel; two sisters, Marie Reed and Patricia Simpson; and his grandson, Darren Stanfel. August was a hard worker that never gave up and fought to the end. The family would like to thank the EvergreenHospital staff and the outstandingly devoted doctors: Dr. W. Brad Shoup, Dr. Matthew Lonergan, Dr. Steve Stuart, and Dr. Michael Eulberg. The family requests that any memorial donations be given to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or another foundation. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2009 at Becks Funeral Home, 405 5th Ave. S, Edmonds (425)771-1234. A Celebration Mass of Augusts life will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at St. Marks Catholic Church, 18033 15th Pl. N.E., Shoreline, WA98155 Ph: 206.364.7900, along with a Recn following the Graveside Service.
