Obituary of Kimiye M. Sako

91, long-time resident of Edmonds died peacefully surrounded by her family on August 12, 2009 in Richmond Beach. She was born in Honolulu, HI to Shuemon and Iseno Mimura.Kimiye moved to San Francisco to become a clothing designer in 1939. She married Yoshiaki Sako in August of 1941. She and her husband owned and operated Vans Cleaners in Edmonds from 1961 to 1980.Kimiye attended the Seattle Buddhist Temple and was a member of the ladies Fujinkai group. She also enjoyed volunteering at Stevens Hospital for over 25 years. In addition to traveling, gardening, and cooking; she became an avid fitness enthusiast, walking and running, in local races.Kimiye is survived by her daughters, Mayumi Wilson, Tsuyoko Sako, and Loreen Sako; and her granddaughter, Manami White; her sisters, Marjorie and Helen; and brother, Stanley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Yoshiaki in 1983 and her son Roger in 1996.A Memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Becks Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Avenue S, Edmonds; 425-771-1234; www.becksfuneralhome.com.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to: Salvation Army William Booth center in Seattle where she volunteered during the holidays.
