Obituary of Robert Culver

Robert (Pops) Culver died Sept. 7, 2009, in Edmonds. He was born Nov. 29, 1925, in South Dakota and grew up in Belle Fourche.Pops joined the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II and served with that auxiliary to the U.S. Navy until the 1950s when he settled in Seattle. He went to work for the Seattle School District as a custodial engineer where he was employed until he retired in 1982.It was just about that time that Pops met the love of his life, Mary Lou (Babes), whom he married on July 17, 1982. They met on a dance floor and kept on dancing in their years together.Pops and Mary Lou lived first in Seattle, then moved to Edmonds and finally to Lynnwood. They traveled extensively, taking road trips across the U.S. and Canada and cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal. Pops loved board and card games, dancing, gardening, golf and especially his water aerobics classes. And there were lots of things his family and friends loved about him: his own love for his family, his sparkling eyes, the way he endeared himself to all who knew him. And his potato salad. He had his own recipe and it always drew raves. He will be missed very much.Pops is survived by Mary Lou Culver of Lynnwood and son Tim Culver of Seattle. Another son, Kevin, died in 1972. Pops also leaves behind Mary Lous children: sons Klay (and wife Nancy) and Kim Singhrs; daughters Marji (Ted), Marcy (Rusty) and Karen; and grandchildren Asha, Tyler and Keeva.
