Obituary of Derrill Ray Steinbach

Died suddenly at his home on Sept. 7, 2009. He was born Oct. 4, 1932 in Wenatchee, WA to Ray and Helen Lucas. He was adopted to Glenn and Georgia Steinbach in 1941.Derrill grew up on Wenatchee Heights on a fruit ranch. He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1950 and was in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. Throughout his life he has lived in California, Florida, New Orleans, Seattle and Edmonds, WA.Derrill worked for Boeing from 1956 to 1994 and was a member of SPEEA. He was also a member of Edmonds Christian Church and then Edmonds United Methodist Church. After he retired, his ministry to each church was maintaining the grounds and lawns. He spent nearly every day mowing, trimming and hauling yard waste. He especially liked trimming and pruning.He also had a telephone communication system to very regularly call family and friends. He never forgot a telephone number or a birth date. Many will miss his calls.Derrill was preceded in death by his sister, Caril Scott. He is survived by a niece, Beth (Lee) Aikens of Alaska, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers Street, Edmonds, WA 98020.Memorial gifts can be sent to the church.
