Miyo was a wonderful friend to us. We met her when we first arrived in Seattle in 1988. She knew we loved Japanese food and she would bring delicious tsukemono (pickled cabbage) to us that she had made. She was also so loving and lots of fun to be with. She will be missed, but we will always remember her wonderful qualities and those qualities will always be with us.

I want to extend my sincere condolences to your family. Through Blaine, Mrs. Shintaku became a dear friend to my family, especially my late mother Judith and my sister Lindsay. Mrs. Shintaku taught Lindsay and me how to make manju and other confections; we knew we had "come of age" when the veteran manju-makers at Blaine finally let us work alongside them! More importantly, Mrs. Shintaku blessed us with her spirit, warmth and generosity. I will deeply miss her.
