Obituary of Helen Ustic MacLean

On Tuesday, December 9, 2008 , we lost our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandma Bear. Helen was one of 9 children, and a twin, born August 22, 1916 , in Berlin , New Hampshire , to Dora and Procop Ustic who emigrated from the Ukraine . Helen is a graduate of Edison Technical School (now South Seattle Community College ), and earned an associates degree from Everett Community College . She attended the University of Washington in Russian studies. She was a kindergarten teacher assistant, a teacher assistant in the math department at Mariner High School , and an instructor of Russian Language at Mariner. Helen was a member of the Mountlake Terrace Park and Recreation Advisory Committee and named Veterans Park; and a member and choir member of St. Spiridons Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Seattle. She excelled as an artist in oils and ceramics; and always had a beautiful garden and home. Her family benefited from her creativity as a homemaker, cook, baker, and seamstress. She loved to dance and sing. redeceased by her parents, seven siblings, and her husband of 61 years, Donald Mac MacLean. Helen is survived by her daughters Sandra MacLean and Christine and husband George Gerhold; 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren: Gail Bennett and husband Bill Tunnicliffe, their children Tiernan and Galen; Lisa Anderson and her husband Kurt, their children Emma and Erin; Lydia Bennett and her husband Ken Reinschmidt, children Dakotah Lane and wife Jessica, Temryss Lane, Kurt and Luke Reinschmidt; Kirstin and her husband Adam, their children Caden and Ken nedy; Clint Bennett, his wife Jill, their children Austin, Abigail and Lane. Also survived by, her brother Adam Ustic and his wife Ruth of Bradenton, Florida. You are loved way past all the skies there are, and always when we see Regal, the evening star, well think of you. A Prayer Service will be held Monday, December 15 at 6:30 pm, and Funeral Mass, Tuesday, December 16 at 10 am, both at St. Spiridons Cathedral, 400 Yale Avenue N., Seattle, 98109 (206-624-5341). Interment: Restlawn Memorial Park , Edmonds . Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Spiridons Cathedral.
