Obituary of Kenneth Edward Hinch

Kenneth Edward Hinch Celebrated NW Artist, Kenneth Hinch, AKA "The General," passed away at the age of 85 on Saturday, November 1, 2008 in Edmonds, WA. Born on September 6, 1923 in Nevada City, CA, Ken attended Ohio State the U of Kentucky and the Art Institute of L.A., CA. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army served in Europe under General Patton and was deployed to the Pacific. He returned to Seattle to marry his childhood sweetheart, Janet Thurmond. Together they raised six children on Queen Anne Hill. Ken enjoyed a long and successful career as a commercial and fine artist. His work has been featured at various landmarks throughout the N.W. Ken was a longstanding member of the Puget Sound Group of NW Artists, past president of the NW Art Directors Association, taught classes at Burnley School of Art, as well as a member of the VFW and Elks Lodge. He loved singing and playing guitar at family gatherings and he was an avid golfer, enjoyed baseball, football and the horse races. His humor and magnetic personality will be greatly missed. He will be lovingly remembered by his surviving family: his wife, Janet; daughters, Cheryl White, Debbie Hutton, Lauri Hurd (Steve), and Tami Hutchison (Tad); his son, Ken (Anne); sister, Romaine Morris (Jack); also his 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He will be welcomed by a daughter, Teri Hem who preceded him in death in 2005. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate his life on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Beck"s Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Ave. S in Edmonds, (425) 771-1234.
