Obituary of Floyd Schlameus

Born in Fisher Store, TX to Cora Guenther and Harry Schlameus on December 21, 1921, Floyd met his wife Ferne Jensen Schlameus at the Hollywood Palladium ballroom. He asked her to dance because she was the prettiest girl in the room. Floyd and Ferne were married on August 5, 1945 in The Wee Kirk O The Heather Chapel, Forest Lawn, in Glendale, CA. Spending most of his youth in Texas, Floyd graduated from college at age 20 and went on to get his masters in education. Floyd, a proud Marine, spent 4 years in active duty, mostly in the South Pacific. Floyd and Ferne then moved to Montana where Floyd spent more than 35 years as an educator, athletic trainer and guidance counselor. They welcomed their only child, Jeff, in 1949. Floyd and Ferne moved to Edmonds in 1981 to be close to their son, daughter-in-law, Jan, and only two grandchildren, Brett and Brooke. Floyd and Ferne traveled the world and played an active role in their church. Floyd enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with Jeff, and telling countless stories and jokes. He was always looking for something to fix around the house and was known as Papa to family and far beyond. Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Ferne and his son, Jeff. Floyd is survived by his daughter-in-law, Jan, grandson, Brett (Ali) and granddaughter, Brooke. Floyd died peacefully on May 13, 2009. A celebration of Floyds life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 21, at Edmonds Lutheran Church, 23525 84 th Avenue W, Edmonds.
