Obituary of Andrew Robert Koorn

Born December 3, 1926 and died unexpectedly on November 24, 2008. Andrew was born and raised in Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island and attended school there. He joined the Merchant Marines at age 17. After training for three months on Catalina Island, CA, he was deployed on cargo ships to carry supplies across the Pacific Ocean into the war zone during World War II. After the war, he worked on the Liberty Ship that helped bring soldiers home from Japan. He was a Merchant Seaman until 1947. In 1950, Bud was drafted into the Army and was deployed to Korea. He was in the Military Tank Division for two years spending most of that time in Korea. Bud then moved to Seattle and worked for Turner and Pease Company for thirty four years before retiring in 1986. Bud is preceded in death by his first wife Phyllis Koorn and his older brother Ralph Koorn. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joyce Koorn; two sons Robert Koorn (Shari) and Richard Koorn (Natalie); three stepchildren, Edward Case (Debbie), Kathy Carr (Leonard), and Colleen Holmes (Greg); ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. A Viewing will be held at 10:00 am, with a Celebration of Buds life to begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2008 at Becks Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Ave. S in Edmonds; 425-771-1234. A Graveside Service with a Military Honors will follow at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery. There will be a reception following at Bud and Joyces home in Edmonds. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
