Terrance Marcell

Obituary of Terrance Gerard Marcell

Deacon Terrance "Terry" Gerard Marcell, age 84, passed away on July 14, 2023, in the loving company of his family. Terry was a native son of western Washington and beloved deeply by many family friends. He was honored as a Hometown Hero for his dedicated life of Christian ministry and years of service to the homeless and poor from the streets of Seattle.

Born on lower Queen Anne Hill during the Depression, he was the second son of Frank Marcell and Jean Goerger. Terry is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Shawn and Jody Marcell, daughter Jacqueline and Brianslav Koledin, son Christopher and Jena Marcell, son Anthony Marcell, daughter Rosemary "Kelly" Marcell, and nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Terry honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In the 60's and 70's he worked in the wholesale meat industry while he and his wife raised their young family. He developed deep empathy and compassion for hobos and the poor because of his humble upbringing, which led him to his second career in street ministry and eventual directorship of First Avenue Service Center, a day center for the homeless in Seattle.  Terrance answered the call to ordained ministry in the Archdiocese of Seattle in 1991, which shaped the direction of his charitable outreach, missionary work, and personal growth in the years that followed, and through which he positively touched many lives.

Mass of Christian burial and reception will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 630 7th Avenue N, Edmonds, Washington on July 28, 2023, at 10:30 AM; followed by private commitment to burial at Calvary Cemetery.
