Obituary of Martin Felix Ostolaza

Martin Felix Ostolaza, MD, FACS passed away the morning of July 28, 2023.  He was born August 10,1932 in St. Louis, Missouri to Bernabe and Mary Ostolaza.  His family spent their summers in Everett, WA, where he came to love the PNW.  He graduated from Seattle University and St. Louis University Medical School.  After medical school, he joined the Navy where he attained the rank of Lt. Commander.  He was assigned to the Pacific Fleet and had tours to Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.  He was last assigned as Medical Officer at Camp Pendleton.  He met Patricia Susan Green RN in 1955 during his internship at St. John's Mercy Hospital.  They were married in 1960.  They moved to Everett, WA in 1964 where he practiced OB-GYN medicine at The Women’s Clinic of Everett, for over 30 years, part of that time with his uncle, John Fiorino MD.  He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.  He retired from practice December 15, 1995.  Martin and Pat moved to Mukilteo in 1970 and were very active members of the local community and St. John’s Mission Catholic Church.  Their home was a gathering spot for friends and family.  The door was always open to share a meal and a glass of wine.  “Doc O” was always ready to tell a story or provide his thoughts or advice on any topic.  He served on the St. Mary Magdalen and St. John parish councils.  His other passions included bird hunting with his various dogs, gardening, reading, listening to Irish folk music, and stamp collecting.  He also loved soccer and in 1973 he was asked to start a youth soccer program at St. Mary Magdalen School.  He founded the Irish Junior Soccer Club.  He also coached and refereed many youth soccer teams.

 

Dr. Ostolaza was preceded in death by his parents and his older brothers, Fidel and B.G.

 

He is survived by his wife Patricia; his children:  Mary (Dan Howard), John (Tiffany Koenig), Anne (Jim Bakken), Margaret, Martin, Catherine (Rob Stuart), and James; also by his grandchildren:  Matthew (Nina), Nathan, Tyler, and Jared Bakken, Ian and Dillon Howard, Keagan and Hailey Stuart, Sean and Evan Ostolaza; and great grandchildren Everett and Maren Bakken.

 

Rosary will be at St. John's Mission Catholic Church, Mukilteo, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 3pm.  A Funeral Mass will be at St. John’s Mission Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 10:30am.
