Daniel Ursino

Obituary of Daniel Chester Ursino

Dan was born May 27th, 1963, at Providence Hospital in Seattle WA.  His proud parents Chet and Roseann Smith welcomed their 4th and final child, a beautiful big blue-eyed boy.  He started life in Seattle, but as a small child moved to Brier, WA where he was raised.  Danny, as he was called, graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School in 1981. Dan was so proud of his Italian heritage; he loved being part of a big loud loving family. Dan had a lifelong passion for sports. In his youth he played football, was on the track team and wrestled -- this was by far his favorite activity. Dan loved to work out and even worked part time at Bally's when he was younger as part of his love of working out, he competed in natural body building competitions. Dan was a volunteer firefighter at the Mountlake Terrace Fire Department in High School where he realized he wanted a career helping others.

After high school Dan worked in the Harborview ER as a Clinical Assistant for 2 years while waiting on his acceptance into the Para-medicine Program at Central Washington University. Dan excelled at college where he obtained his BS in Paramedicine in 1987 and for graduation he got the best gift, his first beautiful baby girl, Julia Richel.  Under the guidance of his mentor Dr. Michael Copass, Dan went back to college at Seattle University and got his second degree, a BSN and another graduation gift a beautiful baby girl, Anna Rose. Dan then started his career at Harborview in the ER as an RN, where he spent his entire career, a total of 39 years. Dan just couldn't get enough insanity, so he worked in the Evergreen ER alongside his daughter Anna too. "Big Dan" had an immense passion for his career and his HMC family; he knew there was nowhere else he'd rather be. He had empathy and compassion for humankind  no  matter  their  circumstance.  He was also his  family's  constant medical consultant; we will miss our advisor.

Dan met his lifelong partner Heidi Blaud at Harborview through their lovely blue scrubs. They married in 2000 and in 2002 they welcomed another beautiful girl, Rosa Danele. Dan conceded he was  destined  to be a "girl dad". They moved to Everett, WA with the girls and in 2008 big surprise for Dan...IT'S A BOY! Welcome Daniel Jacob Fredrick, his 4th and final child.

Dan and Heidi loved boating to the San Juans, staying at Desert Aire with his in laws and camping at Deception Pass. Dan loved his old Bronco and his boat, if he could fish or crab every day it was a perfect day. Dan was a dedicated father, he taught his girls how to manage a toolbox, wanting them to be able to fix anything themselves. Dan rarely missed his children's sports and as fiercely competitive as he was you knew when he was there and so did his kids.

Dan and Heidi were blessed with five Grandchildren, Enzo, Gionni, Domenic, Caprice and Adalynn the apples of his eye.

Dan is survived by his wife Heidi Ursino, children Julia (Casey) Martin, Anna (Ryan) Maul, Rosa and Daniel, parents Roseann Ursino, Chet and Sydney Smith, siblings Mike (Sherri) Smith, Cynthia Denny and Karen Bienz, Uncle/Aunt Daniel & Marie Ursino, Aunt Judy McEwen, In-laws Fred and Jan Blaud and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
