Nieves Directo

Obituary of Nieves M. Directo

Nieves Mancol Directo, affectionately known as "Neneng" to those close to her, passed away at 81 years old on February 4th, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 16th, 1942 in Santa Margarita, Samar in the Philippines. Her parents were Antonio Mancol Sr. and Nieves Delos Santos Mancol and she was the 4th of 7 children. Neneng attended Christ the King College in Calbayog City where she earned an Associate Degree in Home Economics. She later returned to school in Manila where she graduated with a vocational degree in cosmetology and sewing.

After completing her education, Neneng started her own business offering beauty and sewing services in Calbayog City. On the 15th of January in 1977, she relocated to Seattle, Washington with her two sisters and parents. Initially, she found work as a seamstress in a nearby manufacturing facility in Seattle until securing a position at the University of Washington where she remained employed for over three decades.

For 38 years, Neneng wholeheartedly committed herself to being a caring and devoted spouse to Jaime Directo. Once she concluded her career at the University of Washington, she always enjoyed strolling through the Northgate and Alderwood Malls on a daily basis alongside her husband. Additionally, she took delight in preparing meals and graciously inviting the entire family over for weekly dinners at her residence. Neneng also found joy in engaging in activities such as shopping, playing Mahjong, and enjoying the game of Candy Crush.

Even though Neneng did not give birth to any kids, she had many nieces and nephews that she cherished greatly. They felt the same about her, seeing her as a second parent. Neneng lived a good life and never voiced displeasure about anything until she passed away. Her husband Jaime, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nephews will always remember Nieves fondly.

Neneng is survived by her Husband Jaime O. Directo, and her siblings: Ligaya M. Cinco, Lourdes M Acuesta, Alicia M. Squibb, and Antonio S Mancol Jr.
