Obituary of Richard Thurman Muir

Richard Rick Thurman MuirRick Muir passed away on April 6, 2009 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Edmonds, WA.Rick was born on May 12, 1943 in Bellingham, WA to Judith and Thurman Muir. He was preceded in death by his father Thurman Muir. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Becky, his son Mitchell, daughters Heather and Megan, grandchildren Parker and Betty, his mother Judith, and sister Barbara (Ray) Addicott. Rick was a devoted family man and a very committed son. His family loved him for his compassion, loving ways, kindness, humbleness, wisdom, loyalty, charisma, HUMOR, honesty, integrity and profound dedication to his family, friends and relationships. Rick was a leader, an organizer, an orchestrator, a can-do guy; all while maintaining humility, and never desiring to be in the spotlight. Anyone who knew Rick loved Rick.Rick loved traveling, the Huskies, golf, riding his motorcycle, planning trips with family and friends, fabulous dinner parties, the theatre (especially Phantom of the Opera), and was a big sports nut. His favorite thing of all was being at his lake cabin. Anyone who knew Rick, knew it didnt have to be above 60 degrees for him to be wearing shorts.Rick graduated from Bellingham High School, where he commercial fished during the summers. After graduating Bellingham High School, Rick went on to junior college, served in the United States Army, then returned to graduate from Western Washington University. He spent seven years teaching high school at the International School of Bangkok (ISB) in Bangkok, Thailand where he was also the drug abuse counselor for ISB. Upon returning to the United States, he jumped back into the Seafood/Fish business working for Pacific Seafoods as a Plant Manager then Head of Operations. He joined Peter Pan Seafoods in the mid-80s as a National Sales Manager. In 1989, Rick joined American Seafoods Company as the first Sales Executive where he served building a worldwide Pollock sales network. He was instrumental in developing the Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP). Rick was always proud of his affiliation with such a progressive and generous company as American Seafoods.A Memorial Service will be held at the Nile Golf Country Club, 6601 244th SW Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043 on Tuesday, April 14 at 1:00pm with a Celebration of Life to follow. A memorial fund has been established in Rick Muirs name. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made at any Wells Fargo Bank location by notifying them you would like to donate to the Rick Muir Memorial Fund. Donations may be made on or after Friday, April 10th. All Donations will be directed in accordance with the familys wishes to further cancer research and advance the cure for Multiple Sclerosis.Becks Funeral Home, Edmonds, 425-771-1234.
