Obituary of Darlene Mae Taylor

Darlene was born September 29, 1934 in Toledo, WA to Gladys and Theodore Bitar. She passed away at the age of 74 on July 16, 2009 in Seattle, WA. Those lives Darlene touched will remember her as a caring and loving individual, who made an immediate positive impression on them. Darlene was raised in the town of Winlock in southwest Washington where she and her older sister Virginia, enjoyed the warmth of a small town upbringing. After graduating from Winlock High School, Darlene attended the University of Washington, from which she graduated in 1957 with a degree in home economics. It was during this time that she met her beloved husband David. Darlene and David J. Taylor of Seattle were married on June 22, 1958. Dave and Darlene spent their next 51 years joyfully together in the Seattle area. Darlene started working for the Shoreline School District in 1966 as a teachers aide working with special-needs students. She retired from the school district in 1995 after 29 years of service. Darlene loved spending time with her family and friends. Over the years, Darlene was a very active alumna in her college sorority, the University of Washingtons chapter of Alpha Delta Pi where she held various alumnae positions. She enjoyed working with the young sorority members helping make their college experience enjoyable. She and Dave spent time at Inglewood Golf Club were she was a volunteer on the Social Committee. Darlene enjoyed attending aerobic classes at Harbor Square Athletic Club where she was a member for close to 30 years. In addition, her other passions were gardening and cooking. Darlene and Dave were very active with the University of Washington Alumni. They were Husky football season ticket holders for nearly 40 years where they spent time with their friends and enjoyed other Husky events and alumni functions. They enjoyed traveling with their alumni group, which included trips to Germany, France, Turkey, Italy, and Greece; and cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. Darlene and her family would like to thank Dr. Henry G. Kaplan and his staff for their loving care during her illness. She is survived by her loving husband, David, her sister Virginia Lindle of New York, her daughter Julie of Seattle and her son Brad, his wife Linda and their son, Lance, of Forest Grove, Oregon. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 23, a 2:00 pm at the Calvin Presbyterian Church, 18826 3 rd Avenue NW, Shoreline, WA 98177.
