Roy Mays
I had the pleasure of meeting Roy professionally that developed into a personal friendship. Roy was an individual who truly cared for people. He was one who opened up his heart and demonstrated how you could become a better person.
I met Roy in the 70’s when he was working for Hebb and Narodick working in the Montecello apartment building. You could feel the warmth, caring and inclusion of that office which was due in part to Roy’s demeanor. Our friendship grew to a personal level when I started hunting birds with him. We spent many hours and miles walking the hunting grounds for pheasants, ducks and geese. You could always count on Roy to be the one to encourage you to be better, open and inclusive. There were countless hours sitting in a duck blind freezing but the warmth of the relationship kept you warm, because of his inclusion. We talked about a lot of different topics during those times which will never be forgotten. Roy always was the cook at the hunting cabin. He would say. “if you complain about the food then you have to cook” and “I cook you clean up.” My wife ,Judy, can recall one adventure at the hunting cabin as she was clearing the table, she tripped over one of the dogs always laying on the floor and fell onto the dishwasher & broke the door. She remembers that Roy didn’t get upset at her. She also remembers how Roy could mimic perfectly how the dogs always licked and snored as they stretched out on the floor.
Great memories of a great man.
