Obituary of Kenneth G Knautz

Ken Knautz (May 2, 1939 - Aug. 31, 2023)

Kenneth G. ((Ken) Knautz, 84, passed away peacefully and went home to rest in the loving arms of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 31 in Seattle, following a brief illness.

Ken was born in Bellingham, WA to Eugene C. and Lyla May (Loomis). He was raised in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and graduated from Lewiston High School.  He graduated from Seattle Pacific University where he met his wife Janice McMullen. They were married for over 60 years and made their home in Edmonds.

Ken began his career as an educator, first as a band teacher, and later as a counselor, vice principal and principal. He founded his namesake business – Ken’s Pool & Patio – and served as President & CEO as it successfully grew in the greater Seattle area.  He later went into partnership with his son Mark. Ken’s hobby was his business, and considered his employees a second family. He was always the first one in the door every day for more than 50 years, until just a week before his passing.

Ken’s true love, however, was his family for which he enjoyed years of gatherings, travel and cheering his kids and grandkids on the sidelines at their numerous sporting events. Friends and family will fondly remember Ken for his caring nature and the energy he brought to every occasion – always ready with a joke, even throughout his recent cancer treatment. He had been a longtime member of the Seattle First Free Methodist Church.

Ken is lovingly survived by his wife Janice, their children Mark (Kim) Knautz and Kristin (Dar) Khalighi and grandchildren Jacob, Maya, Taraneh and Setareh.  He is also survived by a sister Jenny ((Wayne) Scott and a brother Dick (Janet) Knautz. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private family inurnment will be at Edmonds Memorial Cemetery.
