We have greatly enjoyed being neighbors to Charlie and Joyce for the last 10yrs. We will miss Charlie's warm presence and how he was always so willing to help when we needed something. We are thankful for the time we were able to spend with him, especially celebrating Leif's birthdays in our backyard.
Charlie and Joyce's love for each other, especially during his illness, is a beautiful example for us all.
Blessings,
Rachel Freund

I was very fortunate to know Charlie through my aunt and uncle. On every occasion, Charlie was a kind and thoughtful person, and had a gentle personality. His enthusiasm for classic cars was inspiring and fun to see! I particularly remember a trip to Sooke, in BC, Canada, where we played games one evening...Charlie really got into it! Charlie was just one of those people who you instinctively liked and felt comfortable with. It was always apparent that Charlie and Joyce had a deep and abiding love; Charlie treated Joyce at all times with respect. Being around them together renewed my faith in marriage, and it was the strength they gave each other which helped Charlie to fight so hard to beat his illness. I will miss him greatly. Rest in peace, Charlie. Joyce will have many of us to help her through this difficult time, but you will be greatly missed by us.
Love,
Carol

We had the privilege of knowing Charlie, and it is no exaggeration to say that he was one of the most kind, considerate and thoughtful men we have ever met. Our times spent together were so pleasant because Charlie always showed so much interest in others, inquiring about family, interests, and even pets. He thoughtfully indulged guests with treats that were always at the ready. That unselfish graciousness is a rare commodity, and one that we certainly appreciated. He was matched in kindness only by Joyce, and the two of them together made every date together a lovely moment spent with friends. We will miss him dearly, and send our deepest condolences to his family, especially Joyce. With much love, Jennie and Larry Knapp

My family and I were privileged to have known Charlie and Joyce while living on their block in Kirkland for almost 30 years and actually became even better friends with them when we moved to Bellingham about 11 years ago.
Charlie was one of the kindest, sweetest people we've ever known. I always thought of him as a big teddy bear! He always put everyone else's needs above his own and would go out of his way to make others feel welcome in their home.
I'll always have fond memories of a vacation in Sooke, B.C. in 2018 when Charlie and Joyce stayed with us in a rental house. Charlie was playing Mexican Train with us after dinner, and he just seemed to be having the best time. He made us all laugh that evening!
We will also remember how he would always dress up for Halloween when our kids were growing up and trick-or-treating on the block. They always enjoyed stopping at Charlie's and Joyce's house since Charlie liked decorating, pretended to scare the kids, and really got into the spirit of the season. I think he enjoyed Halloween as much as the kids did.
Charlie's bravery in the face of his cancer and his determination in fighting it made him a role model for everyone else. The fact that he and Joyce have always looked for the positive in everything they did, rather than embracing negativity, must certainly have contributed to Charlie's lasting as long as he did.
We are proud to call Charlie a best friend. He was a great man and will always be loved and remembered. May you rest in peace, my friend. You have left a lasting legacy in this world.

From all of us at the Northwest Classic Chevy Club, it was wonderful to have Charlie as part of our club and we'll miss him greatly. It's nice to know that his '55 Chevy will continue to thrive with the new owner, who is also a club member. The car has a new nickname, "Charlie", in remembrance.
